Did you know that our handsome Hare is more than a celebration of our indigenous bouncer? The handsome hare is thought by many to be the original Easter Bunny.

Unlike rabbits who live beneath the ground, hares would nest above ground in grassy farmland. These areas were also inhabited by birds and lapwings in particular. The birds would often use the hares nests to lay their eggs in. So began the idea that hares would lay eggs. And just like that, the legend of the Easter bunny was born!
