Why Cacao Prices Are Rising – And What It Means for the Future of Chocolate

The Impact of Climate Change on Cacao

The past few years have been particularly difficult for cacao farmers, and unfortunately, the future looks increasingly uncertain. Climate change is affecting cacao production in real time—unpredictable weather, floods, and diseases like the swollen pod virus are devastating crops. Years of unsustainable farming practices have also left soils depleted, making it even harder for farmers to grow cacao successfully.

Bean & Goose’s Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

At Bean & Goose, we’ve always been deeply committed to ethical sourcing and sustainability. This means:
✔ Investing in climate-resilient crops
✔ Supporting regenerative farming
✔ Ensuring fair wages for farmers

As a result, the farmers we work with are among the best-paid in the world. But despite our efforts and commitment, the realities of cacao farming are becoming harder to ignore.

Cacao Prices Are Increasing – Here’s Why

Cacao is in trouble, and with it, the price of chocolate is rising. This isn’t just a minor fluctuation; it’s a trend that’s likely to continue as cacao crops become scarcer.

🔸 Climate change – Unpredictable weather patterns, heavy rains, and disease outbreaks are damaging cacao trees.
🔸 Soil depletion – Years of unsustainable farming have left the land less fertile.
🔸 Farmer hardship – Rising costs of living and economic pressures make cacao farming increasingly difficult to sustain.

What This Means for Our Chocolate

As a result, the prices of cacao have increased significantly, which means that for us, too, the price of raw materials has risen - by 52% in the last 18 months

We’ve faced two options:
🔹 Compromise on our sustainability and quality
🔹 Raise prices

We’ve chosen the latter. We believe that the future of chocolate depends on sustainable farming, fair wages, and regenerative practices, and we refuse to sacrifice those values.

How This Affects You

You’ll see price increases across our products. While we’re sad to raise prices, we want to be transparent with you about why it’s necessary. Without these price increases, we would be unable to maintain the same level of quality and sustainability that you’ve come to expect from Bean & Goose.

Supporting a Future for Chocolate

Our mission has always been to bring joy back into chocolate – not just for you but for everyone in the supply chain: the farmers, the planet, and our community. We are dedicated to ensuring that the cacao industry is one that supports all those who make it possible.

This means that, for the foreseeable future, a slightly higher price tag is essential for us to continue to do what we do best.

Join Us in Supporting Ethical Chocolate

We know this might be a bit of a shock, but we hope you’ll continue to support us in our mission.
